For those of you who are familiar with network marketing, what I am about to reveal may already be a known. However, this “known” is often taken simply at face value, and is rarely put into practice with any determined and sustained effort. For those of you who are interested in network marketing as a business opportunity, what I am about to reveal will save you a lot of wasted time and effort wondering why a business with so much promise is not working. If there is a “secret” to network marketing, here it is.
One of the first things a network marketer is asked to do is to make a list of all the people he or she knows personally who may be interested in either the product that the particular company sells, or who may be interested in another business venture of producing income other than their job, investments or business that they are engaged in at the current time. A common mistake that many beginning networkers make, including many veterans, is not the act of making a list and contacting who is on it. The error is in misjudging, and putting too much emphasis on those individuals who you think are going to be big in the business, but in fact, have a circle of influence that is very small. This doesn’t mean that a person with a small circle of influence will not succeed, but it does mean that in order to succeed, an individual must find at least one person who has several things going for him or her. The smart network marketer will look for, in a sustained way, a person who not only has a large circle of influence, but that the people in this person’s circle of influence will be able to afford the product that is being sold.
The second major point is the crux of “the secret.” A large list is just a large list. What DEGREE of influence do you, or a person you are bringing into the business have with those on your list? Some people have tremendous credibility and influence with those they know. If such a person becomes very interested in joining your business, AND has a large list, then you stand to make tremendous gains. Spend your time looking for such a person. That person may be YOU, or he or she may walk into your life, by chance, at any moment. Think like a real businessman or woman would think and start a small business that can grow to worldwide proportions. Social networking is “in.” It’s time to get on the field and play the game successfully.
